20 FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CURTMETRATGES DE VINARÒS AGUSTÍ COMES, Cortometraje, Festivales

Audience Award International Short Film Festival Vinaròs ‘Agustí Comes’ 2021: La Banyera

La Banyera” is a national low-budget short film shot in January 2020, before lockdown, that could have been shot in any situation. Its plot is a tender, positive, comical, and hopeful story. It recalls us the importance of giving a meaning to our lives and of struggling, especially of struggling. It’s up to us humans to create a plot, and this is our vocation and the sense of life. Two characters in separate rooms, at a great distance and having a phone conversation, are enough to capture us. It is not only physical distance that separates them, but also age and all what the treasured experiences entail. But, in spite of that, they have more in common than it seems, as it often turns out.

The least thing needed to maintain a dialogue are two people talking to each other and two actors are all that we see in this film. Both Abel Folk and Paula Jornet are excellent in their roles. He is a consecrated actor seen in series such as “La valla”, “Si no te hubiera conocido”, “Isabel” and “Ventdelplà” among many others and films such as “La teta y la luna”, “Barcelona, nit d’hivern”, “Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona”, etc. Not to mention his long theatrical journey.

Paula Jornet has a promising career and accumulates many jobs in both film and television, and has worked with one of the directors who went through this festival, David Victori.

Throughout the footage, they keep a dialogue that will allow them to change their vital approach. The dramatic space is the bathtub that could be a metaphor for the life situations we are immersed in. The dialogue is an eye-opening experience for the characters showing the importance of the right words in the right moment. As spectators, we find ourselves diving with them through a story that, at its climax, leaves a good taste in our mouths, something that we all really need a lot nowadays.

Its director Sergi Martí, in addition to directing, has developed many other tasks in the world of cinema, highlighting his activity as a screenwriter. He has a degree in Direction and he has worked in a handful of short films. Some of them such as “División Azul” have been awarded and selected in more than 100 festivals.

«La Banyera» has already been awarded at several festivals and will for sure continue to receive awards.
